HOME AND COMMUNITY BASED CARE
Community Care Givers (CCGs) visits homes to profile households in the wards that we service and identify those who need social services. They link those identified as beneficiaries to relevant departments and structures for further assistance. Among other services they provide are as follows:
- Ensures that all qualifying children have birth certificates
- Assist where there are challenges in securing proper documentation and grants
- Provides nutrition education
- Ensures chronic medication adherence to those sick
- Assists families of the sick with bathing, feeding and cleaning
- Works in conjunction with Operation Sukuma Sakhe through wards War rooms
- Feeding Scheme
- Food Parcels
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
The program is aimed at providing early childhood development programs, care and support of pre-school children between the ages 3-5. Care refers mostly to stimulation as well as physical care and taking care of the following:
- Provision of stimulation and emotional development programmes for children
- Provision of nutritious meals to children
- Provision of health care and educational programmes to children
LUNCHEON CLUB FOR OLDER PERSONS
Program aimed older persons who need services in the form of nutrition, physical and psycho-social care and proving the following services:
- To bring together older persons and people with disabilities to share their common experience
- Knitting, crocheting, embroidery
- Conducting visits to other chronically ill older persons and with disabilities
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Due to high level of unemployment, skills training are of critical importance. Even though the centre has space challenges, it provides the following skills training to youth and women:
- Basic Computer
- Sewing
- Life Skills
CHILD AND YOUTH CARE
In 2009, local service office for Department of Social Department linked Ikhayalethemba with National Association of Child Care Workers (NACCW) to be the Implementing Partner for their community-based protection intervention for children, named Isibindi (Courage in IsiZulu).
The core of Isibindi model is the provision of child and youth care services to children and youth in their homes by trained and supervised child and youth care workers (CYCWs). CYCYW’s connect with children and build relationships through the use of daily events such as helping families with basic household chores and educate about general hygiene, teach basic life skills and build resilience especially in child headed and parentless families.
